At Windlesham House, we are lucky to have a state of the art, six lane indoor swimming pool and after the success of the Olympic swimming team over in Tokyo, never has it been more exciting to be part of swimming. Maybe the next Adam Peaty or Duncan Scott could be training with us!
All children in every year group can swim each week, throughout the year in regular lessons and as part of our Swim Squad. They can also join Worthing Swim Club who train weekly at our school.
In line with the Swim England scheme, we run an awards system for progression in swimming. There are ten stages that the pupils take part in from Reception to Year 8. Our aim is to have all Year 2 pupils feeling confident to swim a length in at least two of the four strokes. By the end of Year 6, pupils should be confident swimming 50m in every stroke including the correct turns and dives. By the end of their time with us, there are opportunities to be playing water polo, have a life saving certificate and be competent experienced divers. They can also try paddle boarding, scuba diving and open water swimming.
Children with a passion for swimming can enrol in our Swimming Academy programme where they will receive elite training in groups and one to one. In association with Worthing Swim Club they will train five or six days a week with a variety of qualified coaches from the club and also with our Windlesham Sports Department. Through the academy, they will develop technical, physical and psychological skills in line with Swim England’s Optimal Athlete Development Framework model. They will also learn water polo, lifesaving skills, open water swimming in the sea and gain qualifications. They also receive theory lessons in the classroom and take part in sports conditioning sessions to help with their fitness. In the warmer months, they do some open water swimming.
Our Head of Swimming, Russel Clough, oversees and is actively involved in swimming across the whole school. He is responsible for the swimming teams and leagues who compete locally and nationally.
”This is a sensational and exciting time to be involved with Windlesham swimming. We have had a lot of national success within the IAPS community and we look to be ever improving. The commitment of myself and the swimming team will offer a great and happy training environment for any young swimmer”, Russel Clough
Each year we offer a swimming scholarship to Windlesham House to join our academy. Applicants must already show a talent for and a passion for swimming.
Children can also join without a scholarship.
