Year 7 were given a project to use all their mathematical skills that they have been practicing this term. Finishing off with probability, the children were able to explore this with games. Thinking about probability questions and how they work out ratio and probability, this led to thinking about favourite games to play and what key mathematical concepts might be behind them. The children were set a design project – design their own game and use a set of concept skills (knowledge of scale factors; use of scale drawing and choosing an appropriate scale factor; identifying mathematical concepts within the game; calculating area/perimeter for shapes; setting guidelines for group games; problems solving – overcoming something that does not quite work).
