Year 2 have become historians this week, learning about ‘The Great Fire of London’. To kickstart the topic, pupils had the opportunity to dress up as some of the key figures of the time and act out the main events in a Fire of London workshop which came with lots of excitement and enthusiasm!
Following on from the workshop, in class Year 2 have been busy reciting poems and planning their Great Fire of London reports. Pupils particularly enjoyed a race to find clues as to why the fire spread so quickly and worked brilliantly in teams. As well as becoming historians, the children have also been composers, learning the famous ‘London’s Burning’ song and then altering this to describe the event in their own words. We all agreed that some of our versions were just as good as the original.
