What a week for table tennis! On Wednesday, 38 hopefuls came along to the squad trials to select four U11 boys, four U13 boys and four U13 girls. Hopefuls played two games against all the members of their group and with the older sets, the top two went through to the playoffs. It could not have been more exciting and all played in a wonderful sense of fun and fairplay. We are delighted to announce the following children were successful and will be representing the school at the IAPS table tennis championships on 27 April at Edge Grove School.
U13 boys – Ollie, Nacho P, Nacho N, Bertie
U13 girls – Emilia, Molly, Florence, Chloe
U11 boys – Felix B, Andrey, Siteng, Max L. Sidanth made the cut – but then had to graciously withdraw as it clashes with the chess nationals!
If that wasn’t enough, on Monday the squad had a coaching session from international table tennis coach Mathew Porter who engaged and inspired them all and explained the need to brush the ball as it is all about the spin. He clarified rules about volleys and the all important flat handed serve. It is wonderful that he is returning before the IAPS tournament for another masterclass.
