During the spring term, Year 8 have embarked on a practical project as part of their lessons for life curriculum – Shop – Cook – Eat.
This has involved research into food labelling, nutritional information and undertaking supermarket price comparisons.
Pupils have then had the challenge of working to a very tight brief – planning a three course meal for a group of between three and five on a £10 budget. The first part of the assessment involved going to Asda in Ferring to buy their ingredients, careful calculations were made and some evaluation of initial plans had to take place. A great lesson in how to get the best value for money creatively. Then came the final challenge, cooking the meal within a 50 minute time frame. A challenge that John Torrode would be proud of; each group has thrown themselves into this and have created the most wonderful meals ranging from carbonara to egg fried rice and smashed cucumber. This has truly been a lesson for life, ACE learning habits in abundance as pupils impressed at every turn. Well done to all of Year 8!
