After weeks of early morning training working on strokes, sprints, starts, turns and takeovers,  the scene was set for what was to be an exhilarating ESSA South East regional qualifier at the Guildford Spectrum. Our Years 5 & 6 swim squad did not disappoint – in fact, they were amazing!

The girls were up first. Coming into the gala, the girls were seeded sixth in both events out of 16 qualifying schools. They swam seamlessly in their heats coming first in the medley relay heat and second in the freestyle relay heat.

The boys were up next! They swam brilliantly coming eighth  in their medley relay heat and sixth in their freestyle relay heat, smashing all their previous personal bests for the county qualifiers. The medley relay finals were nail biting. Eliana swam her heart out and came from fourth to finish in first place in the freestyle leg. The girls finished first with a new PB record time of 1.11.35, securing their space in the national finals!

Following this exhilarating triumph, the girls dug even deeper and came third in the front crawl relay final securing another slot in the national finals which are being held in June at the Sheffield’s Ponds Forge.

Well done to all our swimmers!

Head of swimming, Mr Clough, said “I am immensely proud of both the boys and girls Windlesham House swim squads this year. Their hard work, dedication, commitment and early morning training is really paying off. There were personal bests galore in every event and to have qualified for the IAPS & ESSA national finals in June is extraordinary!”
