The children have been discussing leadership this week. What are the signs of good leadership? What is considered to be bad leadership? Perhaps more importantly, they were asked to consider how they can all be leaders at Windlesham. There are obvious leadership positions across the school for the children to hold, such as those on the year 8 pupil leadership team. But the message was also that it doesn’t matter what year group they are in, we want the children to show leadership. As an example, BM form worked on some leadership challenges to solve. After each one, they discussed leadership skills and how different approaches were taken. They even considered what would happen if no leadership role was taken and what were the outcomes in this situation. In terms of how we want the children to think of leadership, Field Marshal Slim provides the perfect assessment: ‘ It is the most intensely personal thing in the world, because it is just plain you.’
